First impression of Wrath of the Lich King
I went ahead and downloaded the free 10 day trial today, mostly out of morbid curiosity as to just how poorly my desktop would handle things. Surprisingly, it did quite well, and I was allowed to experience the breathtaking new cinematic as well as a glimpse of the starting area for the new Death Knight hero class.
Many, many props to the Blizzard crew for that opening cinematic. I’ve loved each one thus far, but I think this may be my favorite. Guess I’ll have to go back and review them all to be sure, huh? š
As for the Death Knight class, it’s too early to know for certain, but I have a slight crush on it. The starting bits I went through tonight made me a tad weak in the knees. This is what I’ve wanted from the game. Feeling a part of the story, and seeing the effect I’m having on the environment around me.
Hands down what I loved the best was the Lich King himself. The first quest I’m given, after I accepted the quest I heard him verbalizing the words I’d just read on screen. I’d hoped there was some chance that would continue, but was mildly disappointed that this was not to be the case.
However, a few moments later as my Death Knight was bathing in the blood of slaughtered warrior and innocent alike, I heard him calling to her. His soft, almost tender whispers floating somewhere in her immortal conscious. “No mercy.”
Is it wrong to say I wish I could continue to play along this line? A machine of death and destruction who’s sole purpose is to server her King? I know eventually she will break free from his grasp, but what if she doesn’t want to?
Blizzard really has done a great job with the storyline, they definitely have a fan in me.
Oh, and the face-grabbing spell is so many different kinds of awesome I don’t know where to begin. I can’t help myself, I’ll have to make a macro that has her yelling, “Get over here!” when she casts this spell. You can blame the Scorpion character in the Mortal Kombat movie for that.
